    A-friggn’-men!

  2. Miles says:

    Only those with southern accents.

  3. signe says:

ha! so right. i hate him… he is not exciting or beautiful in any way, the world’s most boring and plain person – and he tells other people how to deal with their relationships!

  4. Ben says:

He’s the whole reason I took up the hobby of kicking people in the face!

  5. BC Jen says:

Did Dr. Phil at one point or current have Down Syndrome? Just sayin’.

    • signe says:

down’s syndrome? how is that funny? he doesn’t look anything like them and he isn’t as adorable as them either. i know you were just kidding but anyway… i used to work with down’s syndrome kids… adorable!

  6. Shay says:

Oh Dr Phil, wai must you turn the world against psychology by making it seem trashy?

  7. lol no srsly i are not tom cruise says:

He should talk to guests for 15 minutes, charge a couple hundred bucks, and dole out SSRI’s like Skittles. That’d regain him some credibility.

    • Roto13 says:

The very fact that you think Psychologists prescribe drugs shows you don’t know what you’re talking about.

      • Psych Major says:

Some psychologists do prescribe drugs when they are in the counceling/clinical field (only about 10% of psychologists do that), but mostly it’s psychiatrists who do the medical stuff.

Also, didn’t Dr. Phil’s wife divorce him? So much for knowing how to fix relationship problems.

        • Mel says:

Um, it’s ONLY psychiatrists whom do the medical stuff. RNs can NOT prescribe medication. Psychiatry is a completely different orientation and you would need some sort of biomedical degree to really be able to do what a psychiatrist does. Psychologists become psychologists because of their belief in the efficacy of psychotherapy. Psychiatrists become psychiatrists because of their belief in the efficacy of psychopharmacological treatment.

          a) In order to actually be called a “psychologist,” you have to be licensed. Dr. Phil’s licensure was revoked some time ago. You can call him a “psychotherapist,” but personally, I would say that’s a stretch.

b)Some psychologists do get into solely research, not that many. Most become college professors and practicing psychotherapists or psychologists. In order to be a graduate school professor, you must do research… if you look at scholarly journal articles, there is usually a college or university listed under each author’s name.

It would be nice if people would actually know what they are talking about before trying to “inform” other people.

        • Fotini says:

Just like to point out… You guys may not all be in the same country! Pretty sure the laws in Aus aren’t the same as in America. We have seperate Psycholgy associations and boards etc.
However, no matter what country you are in, you can hardly disagree that Dr. Phil is a tool!

      • lol no srsly i are not tom cruise says:

Except that many do. They obtain PhD’s, then become RNs for the ability to prescribe drugs.

        • Psych Major says:

Most psychologists go into the research field, not the medical field. The six specialties of psychologists are:
-industrial/organizational psychology (figuring out how to keep people in casinos and designing commercials to make people buy stuff)
-sports psychology (work with athletes to help enhance their performance)
-engineering psychologists (work at finding interfaces for products that are compatable and easy for people to use)
-school psychologists (professors and teachers in schools and universities)
-rehabilitation psychologists (work with doctors and nurses to treat physical and psychological problems)
-clinical psychologists/counceling psychologists (therapists, do some psychiatrist work)

          • lol no srsly i are not tom cruise says:

            You forgot neuropsychologists

//majored in neuroscience before going to comp sci

          • lz says:

            counceling? you mean counseling?

no Ph.D. can do “psychiatrist work.” Unless they are working illegally and unethically. Or they have a MD *and* Ph.D. which is extremely rare.

        • Robert says:

Wouldn’t be an RN, have to be a PA.

          • Ally says:

Or the could be a CRNP- A certified Nurse Practioner, they are a lot like Physician’s Assistant’s in that they can prescribe medications, however, they do not have to work under a doctor, they can prescribe on their own, and the often have more experience than PAs because they work as nurses before they decide to become a nurse practitioner. Just a little FYI.

  8. J says:

Psychiatrists give meds, psychologists are over analyzing bullshit artists. I know a few folks with a b.s. in psychology and they still deliver pizzas. All those years in college really got them far.
Dr. Phil, captain of team douche-nozzle.

    • Psych Major says:

      AHEM.

-rehabilitation psychologists (work with doctors and nurses to treat physical and psychological problems)
-clinical psychologists/counceling psychologists (therapists, do some psychiatrist work)

Not all ‘psychologists’ deliver pizzas, I make $70,000 a year and can sit on my butt surfing the net most of the time after designing ads to make people buy stuff. It’s the philosophy majors that end up delivering pizzas because if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear nobody gives a damn, now deliver my pepperoni with extra cheese.

      • not tom cruise yada yada says:

Behaviorism and biobehaviorism have some hard science behind them, but aside from that, the only other useful thing in psychology isn’t psychology – it’s statistics. The rest of it is bullshit. You actually pay time and money to learn that Freud had a boner for his mother, Kinsey had a boner for your mother, Erikson described the stages of boner development, Maslow needed a boner, Kubler-Ross grieved because she envied Freud’s boner, Jung dreamed about the collective boner, Pavlov’s dog got a boner on cue, Skinner was interested in the stimuli that provoke a boner, and Carl Rogers thought boners were basically good. Of course, you spend all of this time and money dicking around to think that you’ve somehow learned something more relevant or useful than the philosophy majors studying somebody else’s thoughts on the meaning and nature of wood and so that you can eventually go get a job using applied statistics.

        Which apparently pays well. Congratulations.

//goes back to low-paying job as a web monkey

        • Psych Major says:

O_o Geez, anger check. Maybe you should see a psychiatrist. The philosopher thing was a joke. And there is more useful things in the field than just the biological view. It’s true Freud was a crackpot and a lot of his theories were bullshit, but that doesn’t make the rest of psychoanalasys wrong. The unconscious mind is important, but not in the way he thought. Structuralism also has its merits, and has helped us develop testing that’s applicable to humans through animals. The creation of the periodic table influenced how we look at the world and how the mind works. A lot of other psychology has science behind it, not just the biological psychology and behaviorism, and has greatly helped us learn how the mind and body function and how we can make them better. It’s not a complete loss, even if Dr. Phil and Freud make it seem like idiocy. Try to relax a little. ^_^

        • Pedrosmurf says:

Considering how much time you spend with a boner, how could you POSSIBLY say they’re wrong? If someone tells me that the core of human psychology is sex, I’ll say hell yeah, you watched TV lately? People are discussing who’s the better news anchor using “sexy legs” as main criterion

If you can’t deal with sex, don’t deal with psycholoy :p

    • Psychologist says:

That’s funny. Because I’m using my degree to go to law school. I’m not going to brag about my salary, but the failing economy is perhaps the least of my problems, since I am “set” financially.

Also, it depends on how far these so-called “psychologists” wish to take their career. You can get a B.S. in Psych and do nothing to further your education afterwards. I double-majored in Psych and Criminal Justice at my university; and as I said now, I am going to law school.

But then, I suppose, you might be knocking psychologists to make yourself feel better about your life? Maybe you should come see me sometime.

  9. Marketteh says:

When did Dr. Phlip realize he was perfect? How did he begin to construct his monumental ego? Enquiring minds don’t give a rat’s.
    (Pun intended)

  10. katillac says:

Dr Phil: the Geraldo Rivera of psych TV.

  11. Sarah says:

Is he wearing Scotch tape like in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure?

  12. gillian says:

whoa. does he need to get his teeth fixed, or what.

  13. Robert says:

I like Dr Phil. A psychologist who can kick your ass. ‘Bout time.

  14. Ally says:

If you look at Dr Phil’s credentials, he does have a P.hd in psychology, but he is not legally licensed to practice anywhere in any state. In fact he was sanctioned by the Texas state board of examiners for ethical behavior between a 19 year old client and employee, and had to shut down his practice and hasn’t practiced since that time.

I don’t know I can’t stand him, and I think his show and what he does on the show and for the people on the show is fake and I don’t know if he really even helps them, I know he’s not qualified to help them at all. you can read more about him if you search his name at wikipedia.com he doesn’t really seem like that great of a guy. He just acts like he knows everything but he doesn’t. Just like Oprah thinks she’s an expert on everything. so does he. Just my opinion..

    • Parmelaide says:

Kind of like “Reverend” Jesse Jackson. Didn’t actually go to any seminary or doesn’t have a church…

  15. Arjen says:

Dr Phil is a danger to the public

  16. Samme says:

Dr. Phil was used as the main example of what not to do in my psych classes. His ethical violations are the stuff of psychology legend.

  17. foxe says:

Pfft, what credibility? Bunch’a voodoo witch doctors, I tell ya.

  18. anon amous says:

    he looks like a chipmunk

  19. dr Phil saw his shadow…now we’re in for 6 more weeks of basketball….
