Around this same time, the fish-lipped guy was spiraling into a drug and alcohol lifestyle, so he checked into rehab, and the group that sang “California Lady” had to stop touring.
“First of all, how did they understand that bear they hang around with all the time? Yeah, he goes [insert Wookie noise] and they’re like ‘that’s a good point bear, let’s try that’.” – Stella on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother
Is this from that Star Wars Christmas special thing? I heard it was live action or something (or maybe I imagined the whole thing) but its like 7ish before my time so I never saw it.
No, the Christmas special, or at least the one I remember best as there may have been more than one, featured a lot of ewoks and I don’t think there was even any talk of their being a whole planet o’ wookiee’s until well after the original episodes had all come out.
The Christmas special came out just after Episode IV (the first movie) and was all about Chewbacca’s family as they tried to celebrate “Life Day” on Kashyyyk (Wookiee homeworld) despite Imperial repression. I thought it was a complete load of hooey even at the time – and I was in 4th grade!
You’re thinking of the other “special” with the kids and old man on Endor with the ewoks and the wizard or whatever it was. As bad as the Star Wars Christmas Special was (even Lucas disavowed it) the ewok specials were even worse as far as I’m concerned.
My guess for Chewbacca is the one on the lower left but, alas, I’m not enough of a SW geek to be absolutely sure.

Sadly, that is INcorrect, though most Star Wars fans WISH it were the case. Yes Virginia, the Star Wars Holiday special IS real *shudder*. This 1978 travesty subjected us to Chewbacca’s family on Kashyyyk- wife Malla, son Lumpy, and Grampa Itchy (who apparently has the hots for a holographic Diahann Carroll) – Bea Arthur as a grumpy bartender, and Art Carney as a Rebel trader. Oh, and Carrie Fisher’s “Star Wars Life-Day song”, sung to the tune of the Star Wars theme. It is APPALLINGLY horrible. Even a dyed-in-the-wool SW fan like this 501st Legion member can’t take more than a few minutes of it at a time.
And we shall speak no more of this. EVER.
Photo looks more like one of the Episode 3 promos, anyways.
I WIN!
It doesn’t look like they care much.
Looks more like the country bear jamboree.
Except they dislocate your arms.
and look fucking awesome!!!
After Sunshine Bear got hooked on coke, and Bedtime Bear committed suicide after drinking too much, the group just kinda drifted apart.

I don’t know you, but I love you.
Hear hear.
either way, at least one person on the forum is enough of a Star Wars geek to point out exactly which one is Chewbacca.
I probably spelled that wrong, so I’ll sit here and wait to get yelled at…
If I had to guess, I’d say it’s the front middle one. You spelled him right, though.
the wookiee in the top right is my mom!
