Not all of us. I’m straight but have many gay and lesbian friends. I want them to have the same right as I do – to marry the one they love. Love is blind, and they are in no way threatening my own impending union. No one should be allowed to tell ANYONE “you can’t have these human rights because you’re different” We are all human, and we all deserve love, protection and peace.

I wish these two women the best in their marriage.

How dare you?! Portia de Rossi and Ellen Degeneres are two happy, intelligent women who happen to be in love. What the hell is wrong with that?! Our modern society must become more accepting and loving of the LGBT community and it’s many wonderful members!
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, and it’s very upsetting that primitive people such as yourself are stuck in an ignorant rut. I hope that one day you will come to realize that the LGBT community is a great asset of pop culture and our modern world.

without having to bankrupt our families, we are pretty satisfied with

Actually, alot of people in the european union have free health care, and even post secondary education. Most nordic countries have extremely stable economies, which is why they have said resources. I know quite a few LGBTQ activists who want to abolish marriage as an institution all together. It’s not about the title of marriage or the patriarchal traditions that go along with it. It’s about the rights it grants the couple. Those tend to be things that become necessary.

The documentary For The Bible Tells Me So, about being gay in Christian families, takes a wonderful look at all of the verses used to condemn homosexuality. It looks at them in their historical context. This one, for instance. At this point, they were a growing society and needed to continue to grow, so procreative sex was the only kind that was acceptable, because it was necessary. Forbidding sex for fun is still not cool, but a bit more understandable. Since in our time, we obviously do not NEED everyone to be reproducing, this doesn’t really apply to our society.

Your way of thinking is really stuck far back in time. I believe you are quoting a physiologist named John B Watson. He said, in 1913, “Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own special world to bring them up in and I’ll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select – doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief, and yes, beggarman and thief.” We all know this is not entirely true today. It is regarded as an overstatement.

The nature-nuture debate has been going on for centuries and the answer to it is that our behavior is a result of biological and psychological factors working together. For an example: a person isn’t born knowing how to read. A person is born with the capability to read but that potential capability doesn’t happen until a person is about 4-5 years old, some older, some younger. The actual learning part of reading, learning how vowels and consonants combine together to make words, is psychological.A person has to maturationally be ready to read before they can learn to read.

I love the argument that you should just call gay marriages “civil unions” and be done with it. Last time I checked, in 1954 the Supreme Court ruled in Brown v. Board of Education that the “Separate but Equal” doctrine espoused in the Plessy v. Ferguson case of 1896, (and which led to Jim Crow laws) was inherently UNEQUAL on its face. Therefore — you can’t have two separate institutions for two separate groups — it’s both unconstitutional and un-American. Separate but equal is ALWAYS unequal, by definition, and by the ruling of the Supreme Cout, no matter how you try to sugarcoat it. Either everyone can get married by the state or no one can. Fair’s fair. You want a solution to be able to fairly exclude gays from marriage? Fine. Then you can null all “marriages” done in civil ceremonies and strip them of the title “married.” Leave the word “marriage” exclusively for religious ceremonies only and not for civil ceremonies sanctioned by the state. That way, both gays and straights have the equal opportunity to have their civil unions blessed by the religion of their choice and called a marriage. Opponents of gay marriage can go find the most bigoted faith they like and worship there, knowing that gay people will keep their distance. Everyone goes home happy. Except for the non-religious straight people. Can’t win ‘em all, I guess.

Paranoid much? I don’t believe I said that you were an evil person, nor someone who did bad things based on your book. And I am pretty sure that I didn’t say EVERYONE who read The Bible was a psycho nutjob either. My parents are practicing Christians, and are some of the most tolerant people I have ever met.

However if you are going to deny that anyone in this day and age uses their religion – based on The Bible – to behave like utter shits to people they don’t like, then I am going to have to take issue with that.

Lets re define marriage so that after 2 years a child is not born (since the purpose of marriage is to reproduce, cause you know we are all good people and don’t have sex pre marriage or if we do we are shooting blanks) then the marriage is void.

we shouldn’t allow post menopausal women get marriage ’cause they can’t produce children.

we shouldn’t let women who’ve had hysterectomies or men who’s had their testis removed to marry since they can’t produce children.

and we should prevent marriage for men that have a low or no sperm count.
