I like how Speilberg’s allegory to the attacks on 9/11 was martians and that the answer to those terrorists was to shove Cruise up their ass.

Dude, Spielberg used H G Wells’ story as his allegory. Maybe you noticed the giant bridge being destroyed, the people running all covered in ash, the giant fireball wreck of the jetliner in the front yard. All of these scenes were written by Steven Spielberg. They have NOTHING to do with the original story but to illustrate the horror of a foreign and unknown enemy that slaughters mercilessly with no regard for contact with the beings they would eradicate.

I don’t know why they’d be demanding their money back for War of the Worlds, specifically; I thought it was one of Tom Cruise’s least blowful movies in recent years (the other being Minority Report). The comedy value alone in the casting of wee little TC as a stevedore/dock worker was worth the price of the rental.
I believe the “money back” caption is referring to Scientology and all those who are being ripped off for it…though, I could be wrong.
I thought it was a bloody good movie, right up until the last 5 minutes anyway.

Two hours of Tom Cruise and we never even got to see the aliens!! The closest we ever saw to the Aliens flattening the might of humanity (as in the far superior original) was lights over the horizon! – and the end was a total deux ex machina – suddenly all the aliens died, without any explanation – at least in the original there was references to microbial life
And worst of all – despite having overwhelmingly superior forces, the aliens still missed Tom ‘pretty boy’ Cruise.
Aah, War of the worlds. the classic alien harvesting we all knew and loved.
