Alas, Candystripe Legs, she is nowhere as cool at Jill Sobule, though Katy Perry does seem to think she’s edgy. She has a hit also called, “I Kissed A Girl.” I find the song rather boring.
It IS boring. However, the line “taste of her cherry Chapstick” is pretty good.

her music is fun, dance-able pop. no one is claiming her to be the next debbie harry, and she definitely does not suck. i like her.
Although I don’t love her, I often find myself in a trance of loudly singing off key and getting stared at in traffic when her rendition of ‘Use Your Love’ comes on. Like the first version wasn’t shameful enough.

i miss the days when music was a way of expression, not a contest of whose song is the most “danceable”
you must be really unfamiliar with music, as many classical musical styles are centered around dance…which as also a form of expression. lets see if i can name a few older than you.lets see there is the tango, the waltz, the meringue, lets not forget salsa and gigs, oh or the ballad. im not going to go inot the very obscure origins of global ethnic music which also generally involved dance as i don tthink they would allow a comment that long.

Awww look at all the little non-main streamers desperately trying to convince everyone that they are so very very counter culture when it comes to music. So much so in fact that they can’t even enjoy a catchy harmless song without “hating” someone for it.
The fact of the matter is this: She has made a billion dollars off that song, she has a very popular follow up which will ensure her at least 2 more albums if she has any type of sense at all. Assuming she stays away from drugs and doesn’t fall into a big pile of ugly she will be at least a C list celeb for the rest of her life and will never have to do a conventional job again. Where as you, on the other hand, are feeling good about your super awesome 4 day weekend before you go back to your tedious, mind killing, number mill type job.
Raking in the money doesn’t make a person talented. The catchiness of a song doesn’t make it good. Popularity doesn’t mean the “singer” or the song are good. It’s not a matter of being counter-culture. It’s a matter of recognizing talent and recognizing when “the emperor has no clothes.” William Hung parlayed his lack of talent into a very short, somewhat popular music career in which he made respectable money (click on my name for details.

Mass-produced commercial pap. But she does it oh so well, so I just can’t hate her for it. Shes gotta a pretty decent voice, she looks good and is good at selling herself.
Lets face it, as long as she doesn’t go blowing her trumpet about how great she is and realizes that shes nothing more than a marketing tool for a large multi-national corporation, she’ll do ok, be pretty inoffensive and hopefully set herself up for life – as long as she doesn’t get screwed on the first album deal (ie, gets a 2 or 3 million buck contract and then has to pay it all back to the company cover the costs of videos, recording studios, publicity et al).
