Sexy, not so much — not since turning into a Born-Again Christian.
But R.I.P., Bettie. You were before my time, but classics never go out of style.
If anything, I think her desire to stay out of the public eye since converting could be seen as a shining example to Christians everywhere. She wasn’t running around thumping a Bible screaming about how God will punish the non-believers. It was refreshing, really. Too many Christians pull that crap and wind up turning people away.
WIN! I’m sure as a Christian, though, she must have been somewhat embarrassed knowing that the world knew her as…this. She was the best of her kind, though, and maybe it was a better example to unbelievers that even people deep into the ‘worldly’ life could turn themselves around.

I reckon she’s right, so many of the models and celebrities these days are just so damn thin. It’s no wonder so many young girls these days have eating disorders, the idea that looking like you’ve just walked out of Dachau is sexy is constantly being rammed down their throat.
Maybe a few modern models looking more like Bettie would undo some of the damage years of malnourished models in the media have done to the self-esteem of a couple of generations of young girls. Or at the very least stop them developing anorexia in a desire to be attractive.

Most of the current crop of runway models actually look a little squooshy and have little teeny bellies on them. It’s refreshing to finally see girls that at least look female.

Bringing an open mind about kink and a healthy image of sexuality to the mainstream is VERY classy. Bettie did more for the American pysche than did any 50 doctors or psychologists.
It’s only exploitation if she didn’t want to do it, was *forcing* other people to, or was forcing others to look at her work. She truly enjoyed being in front of the camera. I don’t see how that’s exploitative at all.
you can still be exploited even if you are not aware of it, or if you think you are consenting. People used her sexuality to make money. That’s exlpoiting her. Plus she was totally gang raped whne she was younger. A lot of people who go in to the porn industry have been sexually assualted at some point in their lives. This skews their sense of self worth, and can even effect their over all morals through out their lives, especially when dealing with sex. One could argue that the makers of porn are exploiting these actress/models’ traumas and skewed sense of self in order to make their money.

I’m a 6′2 guy and weigh around 240 and when I suck in stomach you can see my ribs too.
Admittedly not by much, but they still stand out rather obviously.
A bit too soon to jump on the death band wagon… & rather distasteful caption. Betty should be seen as what she was- classic, ground breaking, beautiful & a stepping stone to helping women see that they weren’t just objects to be toyed with. Women in that era were treating like crap! Finally they could see that they were beautiful, that it was ok to be sexual and not be ashamed. Real ‘Christians’ would say that the human body is something to beheld, that nudity is natural. I don’t see how any self proclaimed ‘Christian’ can find her vulgar in that respect, it’s natural, it’s art.
