Paulinus (died 10 October 644) was a Roman missionary and the first Bishop of York. A member of the Gregorian mission sent by Pope Gregory I to convert the Anglo-Saxons from their indigenous Anglo-Saxon paganism to Christianity in 601, Paulinus arrived in England by 604 with the second missionary group. Little is known of Paulinus’ activities in the following two decades.
After some years spent in Kent, Paulinus was consecrated a bishop, probably in 627. I’m not going to jump down anyones throat or anything, but there really isn’t a reason to include “black man”. The traits described in the caption are supposed to inspire fear. Either the person just likes to include unnecessary details or they find something inherently scary about black men. Bald people are kinda scary though.

There wasn’t a reason to include a dress since there wasn’t one but eh. They were all descriptors that painted a picture. I simply don’t see the racism as the fear was a composite of the descriptors, not an inherent value of each descriptor. Good literary technique paints a picture of what is being described.
They may have been satirizing the old, racist idea of black men being scary, i.e. Sandra Bullock in “Crash”.
