Not true. My best friend eats regularly and never purges, but you can see all of her ribs. She is naturally tiny and eats twice as much as me. Her metabolism is so high that she has to eat more, but she gains no weight.

You don’t have to be anorexic to have a visible ribcage… I’m sure as hell not, and you can see the outline of mine. I’ve always just had a super fast metabolism. It’s followed a steady curve all my life, so I don’t see why it always have to be anorexia, though I’m sure that it is in many cases… At least bordering on it.

The ribcage-poking-out thing is not required for anorexia. I dated a girl for a year who suffered heavily from anorexia. Her ribs did not poke out, despite the fact that she ate only one (vanishingly small) meal per day. In fact, she looked remarkably healthy. Just… skinny. The fact was, though, she WAS (and still is) anorexic, and was (and is) doing huge damage to her body.

All without being able to count her ribs.

She is naturally thin. If you can’t see the ribcage sticking out of their chest, they’re not anorexic. I know people like this, naturally thin, and they do have fast metabolisms and don’t eat tons of crap like the rest of the world. There would be a lot more people like them if we didn’t always encourage people to eat more cake.

God I’m so sick of these. Get over it people. Go on a diet.

I agree.. they don’t want you looking at the model, they want your eyes on the clothes.

That’s usually why in high fashion no one smiles and they do their makeup very boringly or ridiculous in a way that everyone looks the exact same… almost as if they’re just accessories to be played up or played down depending on what the designer would like for their show.

A large percentage of the models are spotted in malls, stores, and on the street by scouts… they never even intended to become models.

I have very profound and apparent bones in my hands… My wrist bone sticks way out and my hands and feet are just really boney and thin skinned.

I’m overweight, though… so just because you can see certain bones doesn’t mean that much at all.

Same way some people have very large cheekbones and some dont.

Not saying that Gemma isn’t too thin, though.

The fashion industry exploits very young teenage girls with weight requirements that are detrimental to their health. But just like with gymnastics, the real tragedy isn’t for the gold medalists or Gemma Wards, it is the thousands of tall young girls starving themselves in hopes of becoming a Gemma Ward. They are suffering all the negative consequences, without reaping any of the benefits.
And that whole “they need to be skinny cause clothes look better” bit is just an excuse. Janice Dickinson, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen were supermodels not that long ago and they looked then like they could ate one of today’s supermodels for breakfast.

She is very pretty, though in this particular picture she does look particularly bony and frail. Though you DON’T have to be anorexic/bulimic to look bony – some people are just bony and thin by nature. They can’t keep ON 15 pounds like others can’t keep those same 15 pounds off. (And this is coming from one of those “fat chicks” everyone “hates” so much. )

this is an old pic of Gemma, who knows maybe she was still 16 or 17 years old when this pic was taken, she’s still under develop. when your younger you have faster metabolism especially if your a supermodel like her who runs from one fashion show to another and doesn’t get enough sleep. that will help to keep you skinny

No, skinny does not equal anorexic. My SIL is naturally very thin. Girl eats like an elephant and doesn’t gain an ounce. (Trust me, I did the worried sister bit and have followed here into restrooms just to make sure nothing’s weird.) But she, at her barely tipping 100lbs, if that, looks much healthier than Gemma. You can see the bones jutting out of Gemma’s hands. That’s not right.

She is a very pretty girl, but she is scary thin. If someone decides not to consume enough calories, after the body eats up all the fat, it starts eating the muscle. This is pretty apparent in her sunken shoulders. Whenever I look at someone and the human skeleton is no longer far from the imagination, I wonder if they are currently hungry?! I’m glad to hear she looks a little less scrawny now.
