I swear it was “Diabeetus” for the first 40 years of my life. All of a sudden, it’s “diabeetees”.
What’s funny is he pronounces diabetes at least 2 different ways in the commercial. Mormons.

I think that what’s more important than pedants complaining about his pronounciation, is that he’s able to communicate the message in an effective manner. That everyone knows exactly what this LOL is on about indicates to me that Mr. Brimley’s message has been received

Actually most Europeans wouldn’t know what this LOL is all about. For most Europeans they’ll know of Mr Diabeetus through this site. (I know I did. I’ve seen him in countless TV programs and films but never knew he did adverts until I saw it here!!) And they say this site isn’t educational

Actually, his pronunciation is my preferred pronunciation. (“Dia-beet-ese” just sounds gay to me.) I have a friend who’s an endocrinologist, and he pronounces it the same way.
