        First, what does “Watch it.” mean? It sounds like a threat, but since the only think connecting you is teh interwebs, what are you going to do exactly?

        Second, I assure you that very few heterosexuals would care if “heterosexual” became synonymous with “lame.” The reason is that most heterosexuals don’t define their identities in their sexuality like many (maybe even most, but not all) homosexuals do.

        Please note that I don’t like it when people use the term that way either. I think it’s inconsiderate (but I don’t b!tch about it on blogs). And I’m not condemning homosexuals for defining themselves by their sexuality, I’m just pointing out the fallacies in your logic…your argument doesn’t really work.

        Get over yourself, the meaning of words change over time. The only reason you are finding it offensive is because you look to be offend. Gay does now mean stupid/lame or what have you as well as homosexuals. Look for the context and gain meaning from that.
        You lame bundle of sticks and branches bound together.

        Yeah, I have always been under the impression that she’s a bad role model…something about interviews in which she has said that she wouldn’t mind doing roles for which she would have to take off her clothes…or maybe something about posing for Playboy…not sure.

    $52,030- unless you’re “set for life”, you can’t afford to go there…duh.

      Actually, if you can get in, they make sure you can afford it — that’s what places like that have insane endowments for. If you or your family can’t pay more than $5000/year, that’s what you’ll pay. Need-blind admission, need-based financial aid. Same with the Ivies.

      Yes, college is expensive, but people’s attitudes towards the big-name ones is a pet peeve of mine.

        There are people who get lucky but it is just so they can say they do it. You don’t honestly believe that the average middle income kid with good grades is going to be able to go there do you?

          Well, no … there are a lot more of them (average middle income kids with good grades) than there are openings at top-tier schools.

          Yes, actually. Major colleges like that have financial aid for everyone. Kids with good grades may get merit based scholarships and grants instead of need based ones. As was said above–if you get in, they make sure you can go.

            Then they must have changed since I tried going to Penn State! I lasted two semesters as an out-of-state student before I ran out of money and had to go back to Texas. I had grants, scholarships, student loans and did work study, but still couldn’t afford to go to the college of my choice.

            You’re out of your mind. I worked my a$$ off to pay my way through college, and got no help from the school despite having financial need and despite maintaining a 4-point-freaking-0 grade point average; the only help I got was from a Pell Grant.

          Middle income kids get fcuked when it comes to college. Their parents make too much money for need based aid and unless they have a 4.0 or higher then they don’t get merit based aid either. Pretty much the only option they have is student loans.

        Unbelievable. I got into both the Univsersity of Rochester and the University of Chicago. My “expected family contribution” was 5,000. So far so good, but I was offered practically no financial aid other than LOANS. Sure, I could have gone, but I would have graduated more than a quarter of a million dollars in debt.

        UofR isn’t as well known or prestigious as some, but the UofChicago is and I was totally crushed that I could get in but not afford to go.

          Maybe I’m the exception rather than the rule, but my school is actually MORE expensive then Brown (I believe we’re somewhere in the ballpark of 53k with room and board now? We’re the most expensive in my state and 8th or 9th most expensive in the US, for a reference point.) and I get a TON of financial aid. I was bright enough to get in, and they made it possible for me to attend.

          I do have loans – are there many people these days who don’t? – but the bulk of my aid I won’t have to pay back. I pay the same amount, after financial aid, to go to my small, exclusive private university as I would to go to the state university.

      At this point I would openly mock the American university system, but since the UK one is going that way as well, I will just hold a moment’s silence for the idea that it should be skill, and not ability to pay, that determines your future.

        * The idea that capitalism is moral by itself, and doesn’t need things like funding for college or public health care to make it more moral.

          Churchill wanted to machine gun striking workers and gas people he considered inferior. And yet somehow he is held up as a good role model for children in the UK.

          Michael Feltz is held up as an amazing role model, despite his various indiscretions.

          Everyone has parts of their past they’d rather forget, but it’s what they do after it – how they get on with their life – that determines if they are good role models or not.

          Plus, to be honest, parents should not be using celebs as role models anyway. Despite the dullness, why not teach kids that going to work every day for 50 years, doing well at your job and raising a family is a laudable goal? Why teach them to want to be arrogant twits who get paid far too much for something that holds little point (footballers) when they can really make a difference in a proper, sensible job (paramedic, doctor, teacher, civil servant etc)?

    What is the problem about Emma being a good role model? Compared to other teen actresses, she is. And our society tends to idolize those people.

    Just because this didn’t make you laugh does not mean that Emma can’t be a role model. I think she is. She’s set for life. But she’s smart – she got top grades on the A-levels- and she wants to better herself, by getting a degree, and learning. I think that sets a good example. That’s what a role model needs to be – someone who sets a good example.

    Emma also has the added role model feature of having a GIGANTIC fan base. All that money she has came from the fans making the movies so popular. People DO look up to her, so be thankful she doesn’t act like Miley Cyrus, or Britney Spears.

      top grades on a-levels? how much does she pay for that education? if she was going to a none private school and still getting those grade then i will say your right but my sister and alot of other people who i know have been going to free schooling her whole life and still coming out with grades like that,

          I laughed. I think it’s funny. No particular reason why, but I did. Not everything has to make everyone laugh.

          You do NOT need to be set for life to go to an Ivy. Money helps. But it’s not necessary. If you have the grades for scholarships, you can get them, if your family has a low income you can get grants.

          Emma Watson achieved those grades going to school part time and being tutored while filming. And good grades take brains, without them no amount of money can buy you a grade.

          I would also appreciate that any insults be directed at me, not my parents. I do look up to them, and they are not involved in any drama you choose to create.
