  1. NoOneInteresting says:

It’s true. However, a majority of those who remember her that way are old enough to have watched her show when it first aired.

    • farsidefreak says:

      No! Thats not true!
I am 16 years old and I love Lucy!
I also own all the seasons and have watched almost every single episode.
My mother only told me about it once, because I know you are going to ask.
This is probably one of the best shows ever on tv.

    • Jim says:

Sorry–wasn’t even born when her show aired. Saw it on reruns in the 70s whenever I was home sick from grade school. So you’re 0 for 2 on that generalization.

  2. What says:

Would somebody tell those idiots making up these kind of captions that

this garbage is NOT F*CKING FUNNY!

    • itwasadarkandstormynight says:

You’re one of those people who loves the ” fart jokes, sex jokes, or random pop culture references” shows, aren’t you?

      • What says:

Wrong assumptions, I love something that’s funny and this is a disgrace to the site. Come on, if you’re going to post some bullshit that is an excuse for making us feel moved, at least go to the appropriate site!

And I didn’t get that “one of those”. Are you referring to some particular set, chap? Or was it a subset divided into a seemingly poor conversion due to your mind? And then you dare to ask me about what you implied?

        • farsidefreak says:

Hey be nice. It is hilarious.
you just don’t like it cuz its true!
          :P

          • firefly says:

might be true, but it’s not funny

            • arimareiji says:

It does belong on the Nostalgia site, because it’s a very obvious appeal to “the good old days” that never existed. (Some day, children will remember these as the good old days. Every era has its own problems.)

It doesn’t belong on roflrazzi, because it’s not funny. It doesn’t even try to be.

              • brak says:

Could have sworn it was another EWAdams crapsack.

                • Vila Restal says:

Actually she didn’t use fart joke, sex jokes or any off colour humor mainly because this was first shown in the late 50’s and 60’s and in those days you couldn’t get away with that sort of stuff. Also it was considered to be a family show (thus you couldn’t get away with stuff like that on a family show in those days. If the header is correct, Family Guy is most definately not for kids and is shown at the sort of times when you can get away with that sort of thing.) plus she didn’t use pop-culture references because when the series was on pop-culture was just in it’s infancy, and thus the joke would be lost on most people who couldn’t quite pick up on what she was referring to. As for funnies person on earth, well yes she might have been when she made the program but there are far better examples of funny women nowadays and most people who watch Lucy nowadays would think “What the hell was the fuss about her all about??” So sorry – unfunny caption and rather inaccurate.

                • Oscar the Mild says:

I thought so too – it has the same preachy tone, by who does not understand the Concept of humour – like EWAdams, this person (as mentioned by arimereiji) does not even try to be funny, – I am not Rolling On The Floor Laughing, I am SIMCG – Sitting In My Chair Grimly

Such a lack of humour makes me suspect it is EWAdams but he has changed his name as the hunt is on with various rusty spoons, chainsaws and big sticks with nails in it.

And two points to Vila Restal for nailing it on the innacuracy

                  • Oscar the Mild says:

oops – by someone who does not understand the concept of humour – was too annoyed to double check the post

        • Chai says:

“Are you referring to some particular set, chap?” Chap. That’s awesome. UNLESS YOU’RE NOT ENGLISH?!

        • Miz says:

You fail oh so hard. If your trying to look educated there, you just lost that title with starting 2 sentences with and, and 1 with or. Smooth move Jack. Lay off the the thesaurus. ;)

          • What says:

I suppose you have no idea of some writing principles, eh? In case that’s what it is, go along and play on your pals’ subsets of non-existing funny-ness and imaginary borders.

            Again, not funny.

            • Rattus says:

              What? Or, actually, WTF?

              • What says:

It’d be a surprise if anyone would understand this. Most people of higher intelligence tend to lurk in different websites…if you can’t spot the contradiction in here you will prove me right.

                • itwasadarkandstormynight says:

And yet you’re here…and you claim that people of higher intelligence don’t go on this website…Guess what that means?

                  • What says:

Never regarded myself as smart, only not feeble minded.

But you deliberately strayed from the point, ON-TOPIC. Somebody move this to failblog.

                    • Miz says:

Although she’s a celebrity. Hm. Funniness*. Your writing makes me cringe. :D Conceited smart-asses who don’t even know how idiotic they are, make me laugh. You should be on failblog. ;) Watching you try to defend yourself, would give everyone a chortle. :D

                      • What says:

Nice try hypocrite, but first learn how to distinguish the difference of “your” and “you’re” and then come talk about smart-asses…I can speak the language seemingly better than you even though I’m foreign! Vexing for ya, ain’t it? Seeing as you are the only one who keeps messing with me, I regard nobody else would give a crap about a worthless internet argument over what is obvious and what is not…so I take it more people laugh at your failed efforts at insulting that at me.

So, rephrase my saying: move this to failblog and ship this retard back to the basement he came from. :D

                        • forge says:

                          The f*ck? That poster didn’t employ a “your/you’re” error.

                        • jinny_1909 says:

Fail troll fails at correcting non-mistakes…

                        • What says:

Really? I guess it’s too much of a bother for both of you dumbags to read his first reply!

                        • jinny_1909 says:

                          No bother at all :)
However, your reply was to the second post in which he used it correctly, thus making your comment look rather out of place and frankly, silly. So you still fail.

            • Fact says:

I’m pretty sure “non-existing funny-ness” would be correctly described as non-existent humor. I’m all for making up words, but come on, dude! There are previously existing ones for that.

          • Vel says:

When commenting on the stupidity of the writing of someone else, it would behoove one to consider one’s own, very carefully, before hitting the ‘add comment’ button. Otherwise, you’re (you are) going to look like a hypocrite, when others read your (possessive form of ‘you’) post.

          • forge says:

Please tell me you’re not trying to take apart someone’s argument by criticizing their grammar. Hi, this is the Internet, that stopped being clever on Fidonet in 1985.

  3. ruth says:

No, but they did use domestic abuse, theft, destruction of property, assault, pop culture (famous movie stars, etc), and a whole hoard of other stuff. Besides, little Ricky came from somewhere.

    • tired girl says:

let us not forget sexism – woman can’t make it in the workforce. wasn’t that the topic of many of her shows? they were funny, but incredibly sexist.

      • farsidefreak says:

Now they are considerecd sexist. Anyways, there are millions of women like that now, go do something about them instead of ragging on the best show ever!

      • procrastinating student says:

Yeah, no farts, but blatent sexism. She couldn’t make it in the workforce, she could barely keep the household together, she was concerned about fashion – especially hats – and shopping, and the jokes were always at her expense, as she and her friend ‘got into mischief’. Funny – yes, but only at the expense of a female character’s dignity.

    • Reika - Nobody gives a shit if you were first says:

      Amen to that.

    • Bix Nood says:

Yeah, when they pushed their two beds together.

    • MojoCat says:

      Thank you for that!

  4. masta says:

    POW! Right in the kisser!

  5. Wasp says:

True, but she did use Slapstick which is still used today and often incorporates fart jokes.

  6. Potato says:

She did, however, use the over-the-top style, along with Josh Peck and Jim Carey.
Regardless, I loved this show. :]

  7. Pugiron says:

As funny as Barney and twice as ugly. Overrated crap.

    • bibliotechnique says:

Yup! Right there with you! I never understood why people thought this show was funny. You folks can now hace at me with the “you just don’t get it” comments. I did get it; it just wasn’t funny.

      • farsidefreak says:

it was hilarious! Tell me the truth-you never got a single one of the jokes? have you seen the episode where Lucy and Ethel bake bread and they use too much yeast and it pretty much explodes out of the oven? What about all the episodes where they went to California? How about the grape stomping episode? What about the VITAMEATAVEGIMEN episode! Oh My GOd!

  8. Covverkin says:

I Love Lucy was certainly more original than Family Guy will ever be. Family Guy has ripped off so much stuff from the Simpsons, it’s just so pathetic.

  9. Rammkatze says:

Actually, I don’t remember Lucy. But by the looks of the picture, I’m guessing this lame attempt at a LOL is probably just a generation clash.

  10. Melody says:

I honestly can’t remember is this site was meant to be a comedy site, or a site for auld ones to shake their fists at everything invented after the 40s. Whether we like it or not, fart and sex jokes are the comedy people are into now.

    • farsidefreak says:

Yeah comedy to people who’s IQ is below 50. Whats the difference between you and and eggplant?
      About 3 IQ points.

  11. moshki says:

I wouldn’t say funniest on earth, just in America.

  12. Nobama says:

Not a funny caption. Lucy isn’t very funny either. Maybe back then it was funny but it is tired old stuff now. And that high pitched voice and the fake crying? Not funny.

  13. grandevil says:

No she didn’t use sex or fart jokes she was funny because she was portrayed as an idiot because she was a woman and stupid women have no idea what they’re doing of course. ZOMG sexist stereotypes are sooo funny. [/sarcasm]

    Fuck Lucy.

  14. Meow says:

All these people using dirty jokes, cuss words, etc do it because of one thing: money. That and they have no real talent to be funny any other way than to copy every other foul mouthed hack.

  15. Rev says:

She might have been funny in her time, but she was never any edgier than eggs.

  16. little gator says:

She might have used fart jokes and sex jokes if they allowed her to. It wasn’t her choice.

  17. Casa says:

I hate Lucy…I just do. I grew up watching old re-runs and never could stand Lucy. Loved Get Smart, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Gilligan’s Island… even small doses of Bewitched and Brady Bunch.
Lucy just alwayes ticked me off.

    • brak says:

      Rocky and Bullwinkle FTW.
      Brady Bunch…eeehhhh…not so much.

    • bibliotechnique says:

      Ditto for me, Casa!

      • Vila Restal says:

I didn’t mind Rocky and Bullwinkle. I liked Get Smart, can’t remember much of Gilligan’s Island (Although I can kind of remember when I was young going into an Electrical shop with my parents and looking at the TVs and seeing Gilligan’s Island on one of them.) I didn’t really like Bewitched or the Brady Bunch and hated I Love Lucy (Although I do accept that without her and Desi Arnaz we wouldn’t have Star Trek, their company was the only one brave enough to take on Star Trek, I believe it was rejected by several companies before they came to Desilu Studios.)

  18. Multi-Facets says:

I think the appeal was Lucille Ball was willing to look like an idiot, and she went all the way with that. “I Love Lucy” was basically a slice-of-life show, and the cast and crew had to think of some way to make it funny, and they had to do it within the constraints of that time. Judging from the show’s popularity even now, I’d say it worked.

It’s true a lot of women couldn’t make it in the workforce then, but Mrs. Ball did, and maybe that gave other women hope.

  19. No1askedme says:

    Down with preachy LOLs!

  20. eTX says:

Personally, I didn’t think the show was that funny.

  21. Who the hell are the fvcking retards that vote up all these stupid preachy LOLs about how everyone was so much purer and more awesome back in the day and everything today sucks? You want a soapbox to whine about today’s TV, get your own fvcking website! Geez!!
(the Amazing Rando is a bit annoyed with this and PK’s crap lately.)

  22. Stephanie says:

If you whine about LOL sites being bad now a days because of not funny LOLs about how things are so bad now a days, do you get some sort of special prize?

  23. Jeff Cross says:

I Love Lucy is also, to date, the only sitcom in which the wife is the buffoon and the husband is the knowledgeable one.

  24. rax says:

But from a time when what she did was considered funny.

Now, I doubt she would make the top 50 list.

  25. shaungrl says:

Oh yeah, funny. A compulsive liar and a con-artist. oh ha ha.

  26. loldanza says:

this site is meant to be funny. not to make points. if ya wanna make a point go on twitter cos dis isnt funny.

  27. knurbs says:

    Who is Lucy?

She may have been a star in USA (and maybe UK) but to say she’s the funniest person “on earth” is quite an exaggeragtion.

  28. Hanna says:

    On earth? Who is Lucy?

  29. forge says:

She’s “remembered as one of the funniest women on Earth” because she was one of the funniest women on Earth, to say nothing of gorgeous as all getout. While her show was and still is very entertaining, it’s not like they didn’t have a wide-open format in front of them – the reason you can’t do Lucy humor today is because Lucy already did it. And over the length of her career, she did just about everything she could get away with on television at least once. And got away with it because she’s fabulous.

  30. forge says:

Also, if you would like to see a perfect example of the heirs to Lucy’s comedy mantle, watch iCarly. Those kids are possessed by the spirits of Lucy and Vivian Vance. I am SO not joking, it is good TV.

  31. gears of war 4 eva says:

the joke was that shes a female comedian and female comedians aren’t funny :)

  32. Trickster says:

In Europe this show is totally unknown. Seems to me it’s just a North American phenomenon.

    • Shaddup says:

Wrong. This show has been syndicated in several dozen languages and is one of the most viewed in the world.

      • paws4thot says:

Seconded, since I’m a Brit, wasn’t even born until the 1960s, and remember watching The Lucy Show, I Love Lucy etc!

  33. Jerky says:

she DID use randomn pop culture references. dumb poster is dumb

    • Shaddup says:

Exactly. On the show she was always gushing all over celebrities who have been in the ground for 50 years that even my grandparents wouldn’t remember or care about.

  34. Maximus says:

Ugh….she really wasn’t that funny. And I’m really sick and tired of people idolizing atomic-age celebrities to get front page…….

  35. Jim says:

And BaronOBeefDip? This can be described as follows:

    Best. LOLCeleb. Ever. And. Possible.

  36. Kristi says:

I am 30 so I missed the 50’s (obviously!) and I still think she was the funniest woman ever in showbiz. Period. IMHO.

Secondly, she did on occaision use current pop culture references. Anyone remember when she went to Ricky’s “girlfriend’s” house on the excuse of a fake survey? The old woman answered the door and when Lucy said she was a survey taker, the old lady said “Your name ain’t Kinsey, is it?”
I didn’t get that line but my grandpa cracked up at it and had to explain it to me.

  37. Doug says:

why do these things keep getting made?

    they suck

  38. wtf says:

Lucy? You mean the prehistoric sub-human from which all humans evolved? That lucy? Well, the show’s about that old anyway…

  39. little gator says:

I htink Lucy was a brilliant comic actress but has to work with lousy scripts, thus the ambivalence.

  40. Michael says:

    FAIL

Comparing entertainment from 50 years ago to today.

  41. Jim Dandy says:

While I agree she is great, she never used any of that stuff because she COULDN’T use that stuff. She broke ground by being the first pregnant woman on TV. Hell, they couldn’t even show husband and wife in the same bed.

  42. AA says:

ya she just made jokes at the expense of women and immigrants…

  43. sinfonie says:

I suppose it depends what you think is funny. I don’t find stupid women trying to be smart all that funny. The character, not the actress. Ms. Ball was damn smart.

  44. randiloo says:

For those of us who are as old as “I Love Lucy” we know there were plenty of random pop culture references. Lucy still rocks!

  45. fleakfragfry says:

Ah yes, the good old days. We all know about the good old days, right?

    good old days: http://www.megavideo.com/?v=8WT75GO0

But yeah, Lucy used all those things, just in a subtler way.

  46. Jeremiah Prince says:

It pisses me off when someone posts something inspirational and critical of society instead of something funny. (boy am I gonna get the hell criticized out of me for this).

    • Oscar the Mild says:

Actually a lot of people would agree with you (see above comments) the idea is that one posts a picture with a caption that makes one look at the picture in a new light, thus evoking humour (such as a picture of Edward Scissorhands with the caption “An Emo Wolverine”

  47. Dix says:

No, but she did play up the stereotypes of women as frivolous, indecisive, and incapable of managing their own lives. I’d trade the odd fart joke for being depicted as a bubblehead.

  48. kip says:

But, oddly enough, I think I remember her being mentioned in “The Aristocrats” as knowing (and telling) the world’s dirtiest joke!
