Oh God I loved him in Blackadder. He was always hysterically funny, but I cant decide what George I like best, Prince George in Blackadder the Third, or Lieutenant George in Blackadder Goes Forth.

Anyway watch this video of him in Blackadder the Third. Hysterically funny!

    • teebird says:

If you want to have another look at Hugh Laurie early in his career, look for “A Bit of Fry and Laurie” online. I believe there are clips on YouTube. The show ran on the BBC back in the late 80’s. It featured Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry doing sketches and improvs. There’s an entry about the show on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Bit_of_Fry_and_Laurie

  2. Blarg says:

Nah, this just adds to the greatness that is Hugh Laurie. Knowing that THIS is what he normally sounds like makes the fact that he plays House the way he does even more incredible and shows his immense versatility as an actor.

  3. L. says:

I HATE House with a passion. But Hugh Laurie’s British stuff? Can’t get enough of it!! I mean House compared to Blackadder is total junk. another good one is where he’s Shakespeare and Rowan Atkinson is his agent. Classic.

    • moosluvr says:

I’m right there with ya. House could blow away and I woudn’t miss it an iota.
      But his Prince regent?

      Priceless. :D

  4. Nomnom says:

You know, I still see this side of him in House O_o

  5. deadinfrance says:

OMG Is that why in one of the new episodes they dressed him up as Benjamin Franklin? The outfits are similar LOL! Love the man and hope to see him in more roles as this one.

  6. Jen says:

I loved him as Percy! I use to watch blackadder as a kid and I’m quite disburbed that I find House to be so damn sexy.

    • Stardrake says:

Erm–Hugh Laurie never played Percy. The Percies of series 1 and 2 were played by Tim McInnerny (who also played Capt. Darling in BLACKADDER GOES FORTH). Hugh Laurie played the Georges in series 3 and 4. (He also played the dastardly Prince Ludwig in “Chains”, the final episode of BLACK ADDER II).

      (/anal nerd)

  7. RuthenianCowboy says:

I watch House BECAUSE I recognized Hugh Laurie from Blackadder.

    • rammkatze says:

INDEED! My thougths exactly! To a whole generation, he will be House. To me, he will allways be Prince George :D

  8. Phoenix says:

I am glad you like my caption.

Only resently did my brother rent the BA series and I loved Hugh Laurie in it…Rofl worthy :D

  9. Osiris32 says:

It’s not his only work, either. A bit of Fry and Laurie, Geeves and Wooster, they’re all amazing and hysterical. Hugh Laurie is a genius.

  10. Courtney says:

I bet you didn’t know that he was in this, or what blackadder was, until you saw the blackadder christmas movie on bbc the other night.

    • Phoenix says:

      BlackAdder wasn’t on last night

    • Starlinguk says:

If you have the BBC, you would have known about Blackadder. If not, you’re very, very young!

      • Phoenix says:

I still think I am very very young (I think, But I aint stupid enough to post my age online) and I have seen BlackAdder and I don’t even have BBC. ABC yes. BBC no.

        Still BlackAdder is ROFL worthy.

Baldrick: German guns: Boom Boom Boom. Boom, Boom Boom. Boom Boom. Boom Boom.

Adder: Let me guess “Boom Boom Boom”?

        Baldrick: Good guess sir.

  11. Geeksville says:

You know, he was consider as a possible Doctor on Doctor who in 2004. Imagine how cool that what have been

    • Jessi says:

Cool, yes, but I love Dr.s nine and ten just as they are. And I love House, so it all works out, at least for me, in the end.

  12. steve says:

i recently watched stuart little and got a kick out of it because hugh laurie played the dad.
his character had a totally opposite personality of his house character which made it even funnier

  13. Jenn says:

I started watching House because I saw him and yelled out, “OMG, it’s the prince off Black Adder!” and then wondered where his cool accent had gone. I love Black Adder, and never even knew Rowan was on Mr. Bean until I was grown.

  14. Caitlin says:

OMG! Black Adder was the best!

  15. K2M says:

Wait, you can watch House with a straight face?

  16. Gromit says:

IMHO, he was better as George in BA Goes Forth – but even better as Bertie Wooster. I don’t tihnk there could ever be a better pari as Jeeves and Wooster.

I love House as well, though.

  17. BarbaraRyan says:

I can’t watch House because I so love Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster. Has anyone seen A Bit of Fry and Laurie? I haven’t yet but it’s on my list of shows to see.

  18. scrapheapchallenge says:

I couldn’t watch house with a straight face anyway, kept waiting for the punchline, as all I’ve EVER seen him in before are comedy roles – a bit of Fry & Laurie, Jeeves & Wooster (my favourite, got the whole set) and the Blackadder series (got the box set too) In fact I think House came as a bit of a shock to everyone in the UK, not only for the first straight role we’ve ever seen him play, but to hear one of our best-loved and cherished comedians speaking with an american accent.

I heard that when he went to audition for House he played it american from the start and the casting people didn’t realise he was English until they had cast him – is that right or just a bit of an urban legend?

    • Nicolletta says:

Apparently it’s true. That fun fact is in the Trivia section of “House” on the IMDB.

    • Gustav says:

Apparently it’s true, but how stupid are these casting people then to not recognize him?

      • Erk says:

Very stupid, they’re Americans you know ;)

        • forge says:

They’re American *television producers.* Except for record-company execs and radio programmers, they’re among the stupidest people on Earth, bar none.

      • kyasarin says:

Believe it or not, until House, Hugh Laurie wasn’t at all well-known in America. He had a few low-profile roles in various movies, but pretty much, only Anglophiles knew him for the fantastic comedian he is. I’m just glad people know him now, because I always liked him.

  19. Trevor says:

Why does this blog have a House photo every week? Obviously the moderator/admin is in love with House and needs some help…..

    • Deli says:

“So let me recup. If I say that I’m in love… oh, oh, I get it! If I say that I’m HEAD OVER HEELS in love with Satan and all his little wizards you would hang me upside down, boil me in oil and remove my … yes, those things… with… with… some kind of a gardening tool, but that’s not important.”

  20. Alice says:

Amazing isn’t it, he had a career before America. *rolleyes*

  21. memememe says:

Even watching the video, I don’t see that as being Hugh Laurie. Seems like a completely different person.

    • paws4thot says:

I refere you to a story from the set of Rainman. Dustin Hoffman had just been for a run to get in charactor, and met Laurence Olivier who asked what he’d been doing and why. Dustin goes into an explanation of “the Method”, and asks Larry how he gets in charactor for a role. Larry replies “I call it ‘acting’ dear boy!”

      • StupidMan says:

I think it was during “Marathon Man” that the exchange happened. I’m with Hoffman on this one, though – no amount of acting will give you the physique of a marathon runner! Probably why Olivier almost invariably looked like a fat drunkard to me! :)

  22. Jules says:

Having watched BA quite a few years ago, at first I didn’t even realise House and the lovely Prince George were played by the same actor.

But I always liked the BA-episodes with Miranda Richardson as Queenie best, and I believe that season didn’t feature Hugh Laurie at all. Stephen Fry though, who’s just as funny as Hugh Laurie. :-)

  23. Nemo says:

Let’s not forget Laurie’s appearances in “Spooks”, either. The episode where he’s at the opera is hysterical. “Are you a Nazi, madame? We Wagner fans are a rum lot; I myself bugger skinheads, so kindly don’t tell me what I can and cannot do!”

  24. tyberius says:

This happened to me with Star Trek: TNG after I saw Patrick Stewart playing a camp gay guy in “Geoffrey”.

  25. Cpt Darling says:

Yeah… we who are old enough to wipe our own asses know Hugh FROM Blackadder first.. so that we can watch him in House MD and giggle at the awesome british humor…which incidentally came to life before the US and the rest of the world started copying the likes of Monty Python and Rowan Atkinson ;)

  26. Awesome Person says:

omg..i luv hugh laurie, whether or not hes in house (which i luv caz of him) god, this is so funny
