You act like 1,200 pages is long.
And Glenn Beck already outsold it….
When I was a public librarian, Garfield comic books circulated more often than Shakespeare.
You may draw your own conclusions.
Jim Davis wrote books to be read, Shakespeare wrote plays to be performed on stage, and people who read poetry voluntarily tend to buy the book.
then he really should use more time and write something worth the reading…
Agree.
3rded.
Ha! I completely agree. Please, Stephen… care to try some other genres?
I don’t mind if he stays in the same genre, but he’s big on the whole “If you can’t scare them, gross them out” school, and I’ve never particularly gotten into that.
Comment from English horror writer Clive Barker – “Stephen (King) says ‘If you can’t scare them, gross them out’: I say ‘if you can’t scare them, rewrite it’!”
If that quote really is attributed to Barker then it’s pretty ironic given how much more graphic his writing is when compared to King.
While I agree with you entirely, I actually like the way Barker does the gross-out thing. No, I don’t find it that scary, but I do find it emotionally effective and I’ve always felt Barker was more about psychological weirdness than making you afraid of the dark.
I have, or had, a copy of the magazine interview he said it in. Yes, he can be graphic, but scary with it (but not as scary as Poe or Lovecraft).
I concur. Hopefully he’ll write something that won’t suck some day soon. I used to be such a fan, before he became such a fan, of himself.
And Geoffrey Archer probably wrote three, it doesn’t mean they’re any frickin’ good.

I much prefer Poe and Lovecraft, but my preferences matter to no one but me. Just sounding off like everyone else.
Likewise; what you can’t see can be way scarier than what you can see so well it makes you feel sick.
I still need to get around to reading that book I borrowed… D=
I LOLed
don’t diss him. i enjoy his books and am a fan of his. unfortunately, i got sidetracked during one of his books by the news that Johnny Depp would be in Melbourne in April, and i lost my page. i cbf finding it again…=P
The Stand (unabridged version) is so far the longest novel I’ve ever read. My dad’s actually re-read it multiple times; it’s his favorite Stephen King novel. Don’t know how he can stand to do that (no pun intended. OK, maybe a little intended)
Meanwhile I loved the Dark Tower saga. It got pretty bizarre and contrived in the last couple of novels, but overall was an amazing mix of fantasy, Western, action, sci-fi, romance and it sucked me in for the few months I spent reading all 7 novels back-to-back. But I’ll admit, the novel Insomnia can cure insomnia (I’ll give it its props for its deep connection to Dark Tower though)
Throw The Talisman in there and we’ll be fast friends!
Don’t forget Black House, which ties in both The Talisman (which I loved) and the Dark Tower (which totally blew me away, particularly the ending.)
he is UGLY
And?
I think he looks like the guy who plays Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter movies…. XD
But no one cares about that right now……
Stephen King is like, my hero. ._.
Actually, I agree. But he looks a lot better now than he did when he was younger. He doesn’t flash those teeth as much anymore. I do love his books, though. Have read all but the Dark Tower series.
What’s with the Stephen King hating? He HAS made genre leaps… The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption ring a bell? (Although it was called Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption) Not saying he’s magnificent, I enjoy his work although it takes some time getting into his stories.
C’mon did you read Cell? What a hugh piece of do-do, I could not even finish it. His early work was good yes but lately he has dropped some big bombs.
Yeah, I agree with you there. Better stick to his old works.
Unfortunately I agree. A PERCENTAGE of his books are good, a low percentage. I guess if you’re gonna write as many books as he has, there better be a few good ones in the mix.
He kinda reminds me of Wormtail in the Harry Potter movies.
That’s what I just said. XD
Nice to know I’m not just a nutjob who thinks everyone resembles someone from Harry Potter.
Oh good, it’s not just me. I actually thought it was the person who plays Wormtail. Silly me
He is fantastic. One of the only true and thoughtful authors to frequent the best seller list.
Hello? Whats wrong with you people ? He is an excellent writer. You have to read more than the first and last pages to know what they are about! And if you pay attention you can connect one book to another. And watching the movie on TV is NOT the same as actually reading the book.
Pet Semetary is my favourite. it left me wanting more.
he has a unibrow l:) hahahaha
…and since I read this comment sometime after the early 90s, the novel sucks.
And he hasn’t written ten words worth reading in about 25 years…
you dont f*ck with stephen king
if you do hell write you into his next book
Pity his novels suck.
this guy is a ghoul!
